A bumper field of over 100 players braved the chilly conditions on Saturday to battle it out for the APJ Law Four Ball Par Winter Cup.
The father and son combination of Robert Butler and 14-year-old Callum won the day, with a plus ten from their nearest rivals Dean Sharpe and Anthony Williams on plus nine. Also on plus nine were Baxter Ward and Tony Jones.
This was the first time that Robert and his son had contested the Four Ball Winter Cup and they both enjoyed the day’s golf.
“We had a great day playing in a group with Baxter Ward and Tony Jones, which made it very competitive, but we still managed to have a lot of fun,” said Robert.
“The course is in fantastic condition and the greens staff have done a fantastic job preparing the course in wet conditions.”
The four ball event is played with a partner in a group of two teams, with the best score of each player in the two teams counted over each hole.
“We combined really well,” said Robert.
“When I didn’t have a good hole, Callum did and vice versa.”
Robert and Callum’s ability to consistently hit the fairway and their short putting game made the difference on the day.
“It was great to pair up with Callum and have a win, I don’t think I will beat him too often, so I will remember this one,” said Robert.
In the women’s event, Kay Baillie and Lyn Garner managed to take out the win, with Kay finding the conditions quite difficult.
“Lyn and I occasionally pair up for a four ball event,” said Kay.
“My game wasn’t so great today but my partner’s game was great.”
