Plea for youth aid

VICTORIAN of the Year and youth campaigner Les Twentyman believes more should be done to meet the needs of Brimbank’s youth.
The Open Family Australia social worker who received the Victorian and the Year award last Saturday said he accepted the recognition on behalf of the 10,558 street kids who he helped throughout his 30 years of work.
Born and bred in Braybrook , Mr Twentyman has helped children go through school and university and he has also set up a refuge for homeless children in Sunshine.
After working for 14 years with Brimbank City Council and addressing the youth issues in the area, Mr Twentyman said the council should do more to service the youth in the area.
“I just think that Brimbank Council instead of politically fighting should start looking at servicing the residents, particularly the young residents because they have been short cut,” Mr Twentyman said.
“More needs to be done because we’ve got a (Sunshine outdoor) swimming pool that’s been closed for 15 years.
“Council also promised to build five skateboard parks, but that’s been cut down to two,” he said.
