Pollies pool promises

THE 25-metre outdoor pool allocated for Sunshine is going ahead, according to politicians.
The Sunshine Mothers Group (SMG) met with the Minister for Sport and Recreation Justin Madden, Minister for Consumer Affairs Marsha Thomson and Trades Hall president Peter Marshall last week to discuss the proposed pool, which will be handed over to the public after the FINA World Championships next year.
It was confirmed the pool was allocated to the Sunshine Swim and Leisure Centre, SMG spokesperson Nadia Ring said.
Ms Ring said the Ministers indicated they “could not comment on behalf of the Brimbank City Council but were encouraged by the proactive and positive discussions that have been occurring with council”.
Mothers Group representatives were reassured by the positive reinforcement by both Ministers … in allocating a pool to the community of Sunshine,” Ms Ring said.
“We are more than confident after this meeting that this will now become a reality.”
During last week’s Brimbank City Council meeting, mayor Natalie Suleyman told the gallery the council had “accepted” the $25,000 from the State Government to undertake the feasibility study of the pool.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to commence these studies and the recommendation is unanimously supported this evening by councillors,” Cr Suleyman said at the meeting.
The pool complex will be based on the North Melbourne Pool model, which comprises a 25-metre heated outdoor pool and three other outdoor water spaces.
