Doctors set sights on Vietnamese

BY CHRISTINE DE KOCK
TWO general practitioners from Footscray will fly to Vietnam to assist in cataract screenings, which are being organised by the Vietnamese Australian Buddhist Australian Trust.
The husband and wife team of Dr Helene and Dr Neil Tran, will be joined by an eye specialist on their journey to two Vietnamese provinces.
They will visit the remote province of Binh-Phuoc on the border of Vietnam and Cambodia and the Quang-Tri on the border of Vietnam and Laos.
The Footscray couple will screen people in these remote areas for cataract operations while the specialist will conduct the operation with a local Vietnamese specialist.
Dr Helene Tran said the service would be offered free of charge and would be financially assisted by Rotary International.
The organisation has held several fundraisers for the event across Australia.
Footscray Rotary Club will hold the next fundraiser at 501 Reception at 501 Barkly St, Footscray, at 7pm on Friday 28 July, with a six-course dinner at a cost of $40 per head. For more information contact the Venerable Phuoc Tan on 9312 5729 or 0414 264 194
