Wyndham Council is encouraging local students to use pedal power, as part of this year’s National Ride to School Day.
The event, which is an initiative of Bicycle Network, is part of a larger program promoting active and healthy lifestyles for children by encouraging them to cycle to school.
Hundreds of students from around Wyndham are expected to ride a bike or a scooter to their local primary or secondary school as part of this year’s National Ride to School Day.
Councillor Marie Brittan said encouraging children to ride their bikes to school can help prevent diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
“Cycling has so many benefits, both for the individual and the community,” Cr Brittan said.
“Not only is it great for your physical and mental health, it also helps to keep cars off our road and give children a great sense of independence.
“With most children travelling a short distance to school, riding can be a great chance for them to get some exercise and socialise with other children.”
