Col Elliot brings his own brand of humour

It’s a good time to be a comedian, according to Col Elliott – and he should know.
Since leaving the Navy and entering New Faces in the early ’70s to earn some money “buy himself a new set of tyres”, Col has been making a living making people laugh.
And he must be good at it because it is no longer about the money for the funny-man – it is now purely for the fun of it. It would be nice to still be doing something you love after more than 30 years, wouldn’t it?
And he’s loving it a lot now, thanks to the current political climate.
“Gillard and Abbott are great and of course you still have a bit of Pauline Hansen,” he said.
Not that Col is a political satirist by trade – for the man of a million faces and gags, it’s all about what’s happening in the world at large and in his and our backyards.
He admits getting older and having kids and grandkids has given him a lot of new material for shows – which is just as well because, for Col, it’s all about the moment. And while he has plenty of characters to introduce to the audience – yes Chooka the roadie will probably make an appearance at Cudgen Leagues, his show is not scripted to the nth degree. Far from it.
“I love winging it,” he laughed.
And it’s not so much about shocking as finding the humour in everyday situations from what’s happening in the news to a visit to the doctor for a prostate exam.
The special upstairs show is on April 30 and will kick off at 8pm, tickets are $25 and available at Cudgen Leagues Club front reception. Saturday night is Macca’s Steak Night – $12 steaks with a complimentary beer, wine or soft drink.  So come along and enjoy a great steak and show.
