THE Melbourne Knights remain undefeated in the National Premier League after a 2-0 win against Pascoe Vale last week.
After a scoreless first half, the Knights flicked the switch at Hosken Reserve during the second 45 minutes. Led by Jacob Colosimo, Melbourne put two goals through the Pascoe Vale defence to take the ascendancy.
The result maintains both clubs’ opposite starts to the NPL season.
After putting together a strong squad in the off-season, the Knights have a 2-0 win/loss record following their round one win against Northcote City.
For Pascoe Vale, it was soundly beaten 3-0 by Hume City in round one and was also knocked out of the Dockerty Cup.
Melbourne will look to maintain its unbeaten start to the season when it takes on Werribee City in round three this Sunday.
Elsewhere in the NPL, a lone goal to the Dandenong Thunder saw Green Gully slip to its first loss of the season.
With the scores deadlocked at 0-0 at half time, the Thunder was able to find the back of the net through Matthew Millar.
Millar’s strike was also the first goal conceded by Green Gully in the new season after the defence combined for a clean sheet in round one against Werribee City.
Meanwhile in NPL1 results, Sunshine George Cross got the better of Avondale Heights.
In what was a tight and hotly contested clash at Chaplin Reserve, Bozidar Lojanica opened the scoring for George Cross in the first half after he was able to convert a penalty in the 38th minute.
Despite both teams having their chances, neither was able to add to the tally as Sunshine held on for the all important win.
The result leaves Sunshine undefeated and in second spot on the NPL1 ladder.
The only other unbeaten teams are Box Hill United and FC Bullen Lions.
Brimbank’s other NPL1 club, St Albans Saints are one spot further back in fifth place.
The Saints won their opening round of the season but went down to Bulleen 2-1 on Sunday.
When round three begins this week, Sunshine will take on Whittlesea while St Albans will meet Kingston City.
