Hearts moved for kids

A TRIVIA night organised by the Bravehearts Mid North Coast Committee will benefit local children with funds raised going towards establishing an education team in the area.
Nearly 230 people showed their support for Bravehearts by attending the event at Port Panthers and competed for the honour of being the smartest on the night.
The night was an outstanding success and the committee was overwhelmed by the support received from the local community. Thousands of dollars in donations were contributed by businesses far and wide for prizes, and this made for an exciting evening with lots of rewards for correct answers.
“The ongoing support from local businesses is so encouraging and their generosity and willingness to support this program that aims to protect children in our community from child sexual assault is extremely gratifying,” chairman Malcolm Neale said.
However, Mr Neale said the real winners on the night were the children on the Mid North Coast with over $5000 raised to support ongoing education progams.
“The committee was astounded on the night when one very big-hearted attendee donated a new laptop computer to assist with the presentation of the Ditto Keep Safe Adventure Show at local schools,” he said.
Bravehearts is Australia’s leading child protection advocacy organisation trying to stop child sexual assault in our society in a bid to make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child.
The Mid North Coast committee is working towards purchasing a vehicle and resources as well as funding local staff who can conduct more education sessions at both pre-schools and primary schools.
The Ditto Keep Safe Adventure Show is an education programme designed for children aged 3-8, and in August will visit pre-schools and primary schools in Laurieton, Wauchope and Port Macquarie.
“Our committee is very passionate and are determined to make sure that every child on the Mid North Coast has the opportunity to participate in the Ditto show,” Mr Neale said.
“We hope the community will continue to support our fund-raising events,” he said.
The next fund-raiser is a White Balloon Day breakfast to be held on Friday 12 September at Port Panthers.
