Doing Dawn proud

Chris King, right, being presented with the Dawn Pardoe Memorial Trophy by president Geoff Shelton.

WESTERLY conditions didn’t deter six boats with 11 fisherpersons on board venturing seaward on Sunday for the Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club’s annual Dawn Pardoe Memorial day.
Dawn was a stalwart for the club for many years and the day is held each year to honour her work for the club.
The winner of the trophy was Chris King with 7.32 points and hot on his heels was Billy Vogel with 6.78 points. Both fished from Jossie.
The club’s barbecue and weigh-in commenced at noon and was very well supported by members, families and friends. Fish that greeted the weigh-master included snapper, pig fish, morwong, bonito and flathead.
The best boat on the day was Jossie, skippered by Billy Vogel, with 14.10 points. Runner-up was Kiwi Oz skippered by Ron Hopper with 6.46 points.
The award for the heaviest catch was won by Chris King with 7.32 points. The award for the best morwong was won by Ron Hopper with a fish weighing .66kg and the prize for the best of other species went to John Donlan with a mack tuna weighing in at 2.82kg.
The most species award went to Barry Ingram with three different species and the secret weight prize went to Billy Vogel.
The junior award was not contested and the raffle was won by Billy Vogel. The club’s marble draw was won by Ron Hopper.
The club’s next outing will be held on Sunday 1 June. Anyone wishing to join the club or attend the weigh-ins and barbecues is most welcome. For further information please contact president Geoff Shelton on 0421 324 773.
