Tweed Coast Tigers Junior Aussie Rules

It was another great day for Australian football in the Tweed Byron region when the Tiger Cubs played the Byron Bay Magpies in Bangalow last weekend.
The U9 team began the day with a very creditable performance. They are well coached and have an excellent team manager both of whom are imparting the skills of our great game to them. They are making good progress in their development.
In the Under 11 grade, the Tiger Cubs came up against some bigger boys. They were quicker with their decision making and had better concentration.
It was a good game to watch, with the scores close all day and our boys learnt a lot from the experience.
In the U13 grade, the Tigers were without their top three players and struggled for most of the game and were well beaten.
They showed glimpses of good football but could not sustain it against a determined opposition who tackled and chased very well.
Tigers’ best players were Jack Banks, Sam Murray, Oscar Clark and Liam Amos; while new boy, Gus Glen, showed a lot of promise.
In the U15 game, the Tigers began well but could not find the big sticks, kicking two goals, eight behinds in the second quarter.
At half time they led by only two points 4/12/36 to 5/4/34. Following some astute positional changes by the coaching staff at half time, it completely changed the complexion of the game.
From this point on the Tigers kept the Magpies scoreless to run out comfortable winners 16/17/103 to 5/4/34.
While the on-ballers were brilliant, a lot of the credit must also go to the back six who didn’t allow the opposition forwards a shot on goal.
Best players – Riley Jones, Seb Jones, Rory Banks and Shaun Maguire; while Leith Thomas and Dom Carsley made the most of their opportunities up forward.
