Street race sting

TWO people have been arrested in Tullamarine following their trip to watch illegal street racing in Tullamarine last week.
Illegal street races were high on the radar of officers from the Fawkner Highway Patrol who scanned the industrial estates of Tullamarine Wednesday night.
A 22-year-old Brookfield man and a 23-year-old Melton woman were fined in excess of $500.
Officers intercepted the Holden Sedan, which passed the patrolling units with a revving engine last Wednesday night.
The driver told officers they had come to the area to watch illegal races.
A two-year-old passenger and a female passenger were also found sitting in the back of the vehicle wearing no seat belt.
Both the driver and passenger were issued fines for seatbelt offences.
Senior Constable Dan Carbonneau from Fawkner Highway Patrol was shocked by the incident.
“Illegal drag or street racing is an incredibly dangerous and risky activity” he said.
“I am at a loss as to why anyone would attend and put their own life at risk let alone that of a child,” he said.
“We will continue to patrol known hot spots in marked and unmarked cars and discourage anyone from attending these risky illegal events.”
