EIGHT Hoppers Crossing students have returned from a whirlwind trip to California, visiting famous beaches and riding on iconic yellow school buses.
The Hoppers Crossing Secondary College students took part in the school’s annual exchange program with Estancia High School in Costa Mesa, California.
The school has had a sister city agreement with Estancia High School since 1996 but in 2007 the educational component of the agreement was expanded to include an exchange of students.
The students spent almost one month in California accompanied by two teachers from Hoppers Crossing Secondary College and Principal Wayne Terrill said they had represented Wyndham well.
“Our student delegation positively represented our College and the City of Wyndham, demonstrating to Estancia High School that we value high academic performance and a strong work ethic,” Mr Terrill said.
“The College is proud of the relationship that we have formed with Estancia High School and the City of Costa Mesa, California.
“This program provides our students with the opportunity to be involved in a unique educational experience that encourages academic excellence and promotes leadership. In addition, students are involved, first hand, in a cultural experience that prepares them to be global citizens.”
It was not all fun and games for the students however, as they were required to make presentations to their sister school.
“Our delegation was involved in many presentations to various groups, including the City of Costa Mesa in California, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Education Board and staff and students of Estancia High School,” Mr Terrill said.
“These presentations summarised the outstanding education curriculum program that we offer here at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College and detailed life in the City of Wyndham.”
