DEER Park resident Cyrus Mil wants to offer young people, who cannot afford dance classes, the opportunity to become great performers.
The owner of Urban Force Studios in Kealba said he wanted to offer free dance and music classes to children and teenagers.
He said the idea for the dance sessions came from seeing young people in the area, newly arrived or from different cultures, without much to do.
“The reason I want to do this program is that I didn’t have the chance to go to dance schools when I was young,” Mr Mil said.
“I think for the western suburbs, I think the community should come together and see this is very much an important program.
“It’s pretty much a bridge to stopping young kids hanging around and stuff.”
Mr Mil hopes community groups or business’ will be able to offer support or donations to help run the classes for three to six months, rather than a few weeks.
“It’s because for me, it’s sending the wrong message to kids: ‘Here, we care about you, do this class for three weeks,’ then nothing else happens,” he said.
“It’s no incentive for kids.”
Mr Mil hopes to train people under 20, recommended by youth groups or clubs for the classes, to become a competitive dance group.
