Robbery rise

NOVEMBER has seen a spate of robberies committed across Melton, with police once again urging residents to secure their homes, cars and property.

At least seven residents and properties fell victim to thieves in the past 10 days, including the Melton Church Op Shop, SES property and local sports club rooms.

Melton police said an unknown quantity of donated goods was stolen from the op shop on Friday, 2 November.

The offender is described as approximately 170cm tall, wearing a high visibility jacket, dark beanie and track suit pants.

Meanwhile, police attended the scene of three armed robberies, including an incident close to Pure nightclub.

The incident occurred when a group of five to six males approached the victims demanding their wallets.

Police said the victims refused and were assaulted. One victim was hit over the head with a skateboard and his mobile phone was stolen.

The second victim ran and was chased from the scene and believes the offenders produced knives and machetes.

He managed to escape.

The group is described as being African males.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Another armed robbery occurred last week at the Erotique Adult store on High St, when an unknown offender entered the store and demanded cash while brandishing a large knife.

Police believe the offender escaped to a waiting vehicle with an amount of cash. The employee was unharmed.
