A BREAST CANCER patient is leading the way in fund-raising to help women of the West facing breast cancer diagnosis.
Sina Portelli last October organised a fund-raiser for Western Health’s BreastWest fund-raising program, raising over $18,700 for the cause.
This month her fund-raising efforts have helped purchase a much-needed new portable ultrasound machine for the hospital that will aid the diagnosis of breast cancer.
Ms Portelli said she was delighted to help raise funds and assist other breast cancer patients in the area.
“I’m really, really happy that I raised that money to actually help get the machine,” Ms Portelli said.
This year, Ms Portelli, with the help of a small committee of friends and her daughters, will hold another function to continue to help the program.
Ms Portelli said she hoped to host an even bigger event to help BreastWest provide services and assistance to women in the West undergoing treatment for Breast Cancer.
Western Health Breast Care nurse/ co-ordinator Leanne Storer said BreastWest was an important program which helped financially assist women undergoing treatment and also provide extra equipment to assist in streamline services.
“The purpose of BreastWest was initiated to help support women in the West,” Mr Storer said.
“It is a way to support these women with every day things as well as providing the extra equipment that we otherwise won’t have,” she said.
Ms Portelli’s next event will be on 25 October at Melrose reception for further information or to purchase tickets call 0432 594 009.
