IT WAS a day that will never be forgotten for the Tarneit Titans.
Lining up in their first ever match as a senior club, Tarneit wasted no time getting on the right side of the win/loss ledger with a 79-point smashing of North Sunshine.
Tarneit president Sue Thornton said it was a special day for everyone involved with the club.
“It was absolutely amazing,” she said.
“Just getting everything ready, making sure we had enough of everything, getting all the paper work done and then to get to the day was just a great feeling.
“Watching the players run out on to the ground was brilliant and the amount of people we had there.
“The seniors got up in the first quarter and they stayed up all day. After seeing them play the practice matches and then seeing them come out and play like that, it was just amazing.”
Thornton said the win would be a huge confidence boost for the club’s senior side throughout the season.
The round-one victory also saw another four players join the club the following week, continuing the trend of booming numbers at the Titans.
“I think at the beginning of pre-season, we didn’t know if we would get the numbers for the seniors but once they started coming, they just kept coming,” Thornton said.
“It (winning) built the boys’ confidence up no end.
“We played some tough teams in the pre-season and because these boys haven’t played together it was a little hard to gauge how we would go. The coaching staff did really well and it was just a great day for the club.”
With the Division Two competition breaking into two separate divisions half way through the season, Thornton is hoping the wins can keep coming.
“We just want them to get as many wins as they can on the board and really gel as a team,” she said.
“It would be great to stay in second division. The guys have surprised us so far, they surprised us on the weekend (against North Sunshine) and hopefully they can just keep it going.”
