CASSIDY Clayton believes calisthenics is a great opportunity for adolescents to make new friends and be part of a welcoming community.
The 14-year-old Deer Park resident trains at K&K Calisthenics in Ravenhall and told Star that since beginning training with the club she has enjoyed a fresh outlook on life.
It is also a great way to boost confidence with Cassidy performing her first Avonde Solo Competition earlier this month alongside her peer Bianca Diliberto.
“It was my first solo and I was a bit nervous,” she said.
“But I went well and I would encourage other young people to give it a go.
“Calisthenics is a very welcoming environment.”
Coach Katie McGuigan said both performers have worked hard to develop their aesthetic skills, which are based on ballet movements, elevated movements, grace and poise.
“They have both displayed positive attributes, such as perseverance, determination and a strong work ethic, which not only helps them in the world of calisthenics, but are commendable qualities in their everyday lives,” Katie said.
And Cassidy is looking forward to performing in many more solo competitions telling Star she will continue to enjoy calisthenics for many years to come.
