Council turns off the taps

HOBSONS Bay City Council will remove selected beachside showers and taps in an effort to save water and combat vandalism.
The decision follows similar moves by other bayside councils, which have begun removing public showers and taps following the introduction of Stage 3 water restrictions.
Mayor Leigh Hardinge said vandals had been stealing taps for their value as scrap metal.
“Even more alarmingly, some people just leave taps running, and in this time of drought, that is precious water that we just can’t afford to lose.”
