Werribee roars back for win

WERRIBEE has shown its mettle in a rousing comeback to down Coburg in the Victorian Football League (VFL) over the weekend, while Williamstown has suffered its second loss in a row.
The Werribee Tigers’ spirited win over Coburg has been hailed as one of the best games of the season with the western suburbs team twice coming back from the dead to record a 10-point win.
After kicking the first two goals of the game, Werribee conceded the next eight before fighting back to be down by only a point at half-time.
However, the team was again outscored in the third quarter as Coburg piled on four goals to one to take a healthy 17-point lead into the final break. But a rejuvenated Werribee stormed home in the last quarter kicking four majors and keeping Coburg goalless.
The Werribee Tigers were led by Brad Murphy, Robert Castello and another fine performance by gun forward James Podsiadly, who kicked six to take his season tally to 46. The win, Werribee’s third in a row, keeps the team in sixth spot on the VFL ladder.
Williamstown’s three-goal loss to the Box Hill Hawks was a low-scoring affair, with only one goal recorded in the second half.
Box Hill, with star Hawthorn forward Mark Williams in attack, took hold of the game early and never looked back. The Hawks led by 10 points at the first change and 12 at half-time.
They kicked the only goal of the second half in third quarter and restricted Williamstown to four points for the rest of the game. Ben Kane kicked three goals for the Hawks, with Williams booting two.
For Williamstown, Julian Rowe kicked two goals. Despite successive losses, Williamstown has held fifth spot on the ladder.
