MELTON Police seized $250,000 worth of cannabis plants from a Caroline Springs property last week.
The Chisholm Drive home was raided early last Thursday morning after a tip off from an anonymous resident.
Inspector Stephen Mutton told Star five rooms in the property were filled with cannabis plants and police seized 149 plants and 80 seedlings during the raid.
Insp Mutton said each plant had a street value of around $2000.
He said no arrests had been made and police would continue to investigate the operation.
No one was at the property at the time of the raid.
Insp Mutton said police would take a zero-tolerance approach to “grow houses” and would continue to execute search warrants on similar operations throughout the municipality.
He said tip-offs from the public helped in such investigations.
“We will continue to do search warrants… this kind of activity is illegal and one of our major priorities,” Insp Mutton said.
“We are getting information all the time.”
Insp Mutton warned that such grow houses posed a significant safety risk to the community and could easily set alight because they bypass electricity.
This warning comes less than a month after firefighters battled a blaze in Cairnlea and uncovered up to 25 cannabis plants in two bedrooms.
