A new star in the West

TODAY’S edition of Star in its current form will be the last. From next week the Star will be published as a bigger and more comprehensive title when it will be merged with the Weekly.
The new merged title will be the Star Weekly and will form one of six titles published by a new joint venture between Star News Group and MMP.
Star News Group has been publishing newspapers for 104 years and in Melbourne’s West since 2000. The merged titles include titles with roots going back well over a century. The new merged entity will bring the best of two of Melbourne’s newspaper powerhouses.
Star News Group’s Managing Director Paul Thomas said: “The Star Weekly will continue to provide readers and advertisers with a quality community newspaper, reflecting the views and diversity of its readers.
“The combined titles will ensure we are able to provide the best newspapers in Melbourne’s west and north-west, including news, classifieds, real estate, motoring and retail advertising.
“Thank you to our readers, advertisers and staff for your support and I look forward to a new and even stronger relationship with Star Weekly.”
The six new titles will combine with a circulation of 320,000 across Wyndham, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Sunbury, Macedon and throughout the northern suburbs.
