Police probe petrol thefts

POLICE seized over 800 litres of petrol and arrested two men last Wednesday following an investigation into a series of petrol thefts across Melbourne.
Search warrants were executed by detectives from the Wyndham, Melton and Hobsons Bay Vehicle Crime Reduction Teams at three properties across Melbourne’s West.
Two properties were located on Eyre Street, Melton and the third property was on Snowden Street in Laverton.
A 32-year-old Melton man and a 34-year-old Laverton man were arrested and are currently being interviewed.
A hydroponic cannabis set-up was also located at the Melton address and externally grown cannabis, other drugs, cars, trailers and weapons were also seized.
The investigation has been running for around three months and police believe at least 48 incidents are involved in the series.
The thefts have occurred at suburbs right across Melbourne and date back to July 2013, with the total amount of petrol stolen believed to be valued at over $12,000.
