Film Festival joins packed program

The ever-growing Tweed Senior Week program has expanded even more this year with the inclusion of the Young At Heart Film Festival.
The Film Festival will be held at Cinemax Cinema Kingscliff from Sunday, March 18 (the opening day of Seniors Week celebrations) through to Sunday, March 25.
The Young At Heart Film Festival, created specifically for the over 60s, is held throughout NSW and includes a series of short films featuring Australian actors over the age of 60 as well as classic movies.
Tweed Shire Council Aged and Disability Development Officer Karen Collins said it was the first time that the Festival had been held here in the Tweed.
She said Cinemax had been chosen because of its accessibility. Voting on films will be held on Wednesday, March 21 from 9.30am and film-goers will be able to choose their favourites.
As well as the hour-long film festival event there will also be a rare public performance by the U3A Tweed Coast Singing for Pleasure Group.
Group organiser Elva Ridden said the group was formed four years ago and are not a choir but are just a group of locals who just get together and sing and have fun.
Formed four years aga, they meet at Cudgen Leagues Club each Wednesday from 2pm-3.30pm.
Cinemax owner Stephen Buge said he was happy to be part of seniors week this year.
“I think it’s fantastic,” he said.
“We are very pleased to be involved in such a great community event.”
As well as the short film voting session, Cinemax will show a classic movie each day of the festival. Films will include The Red Shows, My Fair Lady, That’s Entertainment Part One and Two, Dial M For Murder, High Society, Calamity Jane and Singin’ In The Rain.
