A Mullumbimby women’s hockey team called the ‘Hot Shots’ have been awarded a Certificate of Achievement Award in sport at the recent Australia Day celebrations in Murwillumbah.
‘Hot Shots’ are a team of players who have played successfully in the bi-Annual Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast over many years. The personnel has changed within the current team but the name has remained the same.
The team is represented by the Mullumbimby Hockey Club in Divisions 1 and 2 in the Tweed Border competition – with only two players being reined in from other clubs.
In November 2010 the team entered the Over 40 competition against 11 other teams from a variety of countries and states. The ages of the players ranged from 40-59.
The team, under the guidance of the coach, Suzanne Lofts, went through the competition undefeated, with an amazing score of 48 goals for and none against to take out the gold medal.
All these women are also representative players for Tweed Border so have played together at state level. Suzanne Lofts and Karen Iwanuscha, who are both Queensland Representatives, have both also been selected in Australian Masters teams in their respectful age divisions which will be played on the Gold Coast in July 2011 against New Zealand.
Mullumbimby Hockey club is a very competitive and family orientated club and all their members love their hockey. The club is made up of three senior women’s teams and two senior men’s teams and they’re working hard to build their juniors.
