Tweed team wins world cup trophy – almost

At a time when most of us are slowing down, a group of Tweed-based round-ball footballers are ramping and winning big – well kind of.
The Tweed Tigers, who play in the Gold Coast Masters over 35s competition, have recently taken on an extra challenge
Team sponsor (owner of Bulk Sports Warehouse) and sweeper James Pettit said the team had taken on an annual challenge match against a Sydney Over 35s side.
“This year we organised a game against a Sydney over 35s team, Ermington United,” he said.
“Our team travelled to Sydney over the weekend and played against Ermington United (on Sunday, March 6). We won 4-1.
“This is going to be an annual event between the two teams, playing for the Two Rivers Cup (Tweed being on the Tweed River and Ermington being on the banks of the Parramatta River in Sydney).”
And it isn’t just any trophy that they have won.
“We have a two foot-high replica of the Soccer World Cup Trophy that is presented to the winning team after each annual game,” he laughed.
