ANZAC marches on

Record crowds took part in the Kingscliff and Cudgen ANZAC Day Ceremonies last week, with huge crowds lining the street to watch the main march down Marine Parade.
Kingscliff RSL president Don Riley said all three events were very well attended, including the new Dawn Service in Kingscliff. The new service, held to complement the traditional Cudgen dawn event, was held at 5.45am. The service was added in the interest of the RSL’s Second World War veterans who, despite being over 80, now still want to take part in the earlier service.
“We had more than 400 at Cudgen and 500 at the Kingscliff Dawn Service and then more than 2000 people at the main service,” Mr Riley said.
“I have never seen so many people lining the streets for the march.
“They were all along the route – right back to the
bowls club.
“It was just so good – definitely record numbers.”
Mr Riley said the school and Easter holidays probably contributed to the large increase in numbers.
He said there was a large contingent of local school kids from all the major schools involved in the March.
“They were all so well behaved – it was so good to see them there.”
