Northern Rivers Guardians and Caldera Environment Centre are hosting a United Community Gathering against Coal Seam Gas Mining at Murwillumbah on Saturday, May 14.
The Gathering will begin at 11am at Knox Park with a march through the CBD, returning to Knox Park for speakers at noon.
The Fracking Theatre Group will perform street theatre and Paul Joseph will unveil his anti-fracking song.
Speakers include Drew Hutton (President of Lock the Gate Alliance), Jeremy Buckingham MLC and representatives of local community and industry groups who are concerned about the imposition of this technology on the local area.
This event provides an opportunity for ordinary community members to make their voices heard alongside those of Tweed, Lismore and Kyogle Councils, Rous Water, Destination Tweed and other organisations that have called for a moratorium on coal seam gas mining.
The United Community Gathering looks to be a major milestone in the social and political life of the Northern Rivers. It brings together concerned community members from environmental, community, agricultural, tourism and other industry groups in common cause to protect the environmental, social and economic future of the Northern Rivers.
