For more than a decade, the Mother’s Day Classic fun run and walk has provided communities with a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
This year, for the first time, a group of mums and their children from Kingscliff participated, and raised a substantial amount for breast cancer research in the process. Some of them ran, and some of them walked, but all were united in the effort to find a cure for future generations.
Many wore tribute cards dedicating their morning to loved ones with breast cancer.
One of the team, Camilla Manson, said she did it because her own mother is a breast cancer survivor, and she would like to think that in the future, the funds they have helped raise will ensure that everyone will survive this disease.
As another member of the team, Tracey Thuys said, “It was such a fabulous festival atmosphere on the day, and a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the life of survivors and pay tribute to others. We really felt like we were doing something special with our children on Mother’s Day. We had over 30 in our team this year, and judging by the feedback after the event, I would think that next year our team numbers will have doubled”.
