Navy celebrates 100th

It’s not every day you turn 100, according to Hugh Aitken – not that he’d know personally.
Hugh is a former Navy man and one of the men behind  the organisation’s 100th birthday celebrations in Kingscliff next month.
The retired Warrant Officer, who served from 1961 to 1981, is part of the organising committee for the event being run by the Kingscliff RSL Sub Branch.
“Calling all Navy and ex-naval personnel and their families,” he said.
“Dust off your medals and come and join with us in celebrating the RAN’s 100th birthday at Kingscliff on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
“The March will fall in opposite the Kingcliff Bowls Club on Marine Parade, Kingscliff at 1000 hours, marching to the Cenotaph. This will be followed by refreshments and a light lunch.”
The Naval Cadets from Training Ship Vampire will provide the guard and the band.
“Everyone is welcome,” he said.
A lunch will be held at the Surf Club after the March.
For catering purposes, those interested in coming should RSVP to Hugh on 07 5524 4534 or email hughaitken@bigpond.com by Thursday, July 7, 2011.
