Tweed residents, small businesses and community groups have three weeks to make their voices heard on local police numbers and resources, according to State member for Tweed Geoff Provest.
“A statewide audit of police resources was one of the Coalition’s key election promises and that process is now underway, with community consultation,” Mr Provest said.
“The audit is being conducted by respected Former Assistant NSW Police Commissioner Peter Parsons and I need to receive local submissions by Friday, July 22.”
“Locals can email their ideas to me at tweed@parliament.nsw.gov.au or write to me at PO Box 6695, Tweed Heads South 2486.
“I will then forward all submissions to Mr Parsons, providing they are reasonably constructive and relevant.
“The process is important because the Tweed was severely shortchanged on police numbers over 16 years of the previous Labor State Government.
“There is just one officer for every 700 locals here, compared to one for every 500 Sydneysiders.”
Mr Provest said he also welcomed feedback on the preferred site for the new Tweed Police Station.
“I believe expanding the existing Kingscliff Police Station is not good enough, but I am always keen to hear the views of others in the Tweed,” he concluded.
