Pottsville surfer, Brittani Nicholl, created history on the weekend, being the first woman to win three NSW Open Women’s Surfmasters Titles in a row, last weekend at Kiama, on the NSW South Coast. The cold conditions did not affect the Pottsville ripper who currently sits 40th on the Women’s World Qualifying Series rankings.
Brittani is looking forward to the Australian Surf Festival to be held at Port Macquarie in August, hoping to grab an Australian Title in 2011 as well.
“I am looking forward to the Australian Titles this year. The last two years I’ve been eliminated before the final…last year I surfed really well, up until the semi-finals. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to crack it on my third time with a podium finish and take the title! It’s not only an individual event, but a teams event as well; it’s a different ball game again when you are surfing for your State and your team!”
Brittani has had a full-on program in the last seven months, in fact Brittani has been absent at her local breaks, not being at home for all of the last month, due to her event schedule. She has been doing the main WQS events this year, travelling to Europe where she competed in two 6-star events, one in France and the other in Portugal. Chasing the 6-star events, Brittani’s goal is to get a crack the top 40 in the World, which will give her a seed in the main rounds of the WQS events for 2012, with the aim of qualifying for the Elite Women’s World Championship Tour in the near future. Brittani now is back to reality for a few months, saving to pay her way to the next round of WQS events, spending most of September in Spain for two more events. “Next year’s season shall be interesting. I plan to give it a good nudge!”
The young Pottsville lass with the curly hair and great smile has a busy schedule ahead of her, but has a good focus, and could be knocking on the door of qualification by year’s end 2012.
