It is an iconic building in the centre of Kingscliff, straight opposite the town’s famous fig-tree landmark and now it has been given a whole new look and a whole new lease
on life.
Long the site of the local BP garage, the shop and the town’s main bait and tackle centre, the shop at the corner of Marine Parade and Seaview Street is now the home of Water Sports Guru.
The brainchild of long-time Tweed resident Tim Jack Adams, Water Sports Guru is a hire service for all those things tourists and locals love to enjoy.
The new shopfront hire service, Kingscliff Coastal Activities and Hire, officially opened last Saturday, with a fundraising day. From 11am to 2pm, Tim offered half-hour kayak, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding experiences for the cost of a gold coin donation. All money raised went to the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. He also opened the door for local sporting groups to provide a barbecue and raise money for their clubs.
Tim said the new store had been a dream of his, after spending years coming to Kingscliff to enjoy the creek and waterways.
Thanks to Tim, visitors and locals can now hire kayaks, bicycles, surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, fishing gear and more from one central point in Kingscliff. And of course, the shop still offers bait and tackle.
“So many people said – you have to keep stocking bait and tackle,” he laughed.
