For more than fifteen years, Dave Battah has thrilled audiences from Las Vegas to the Middle East with his stunning recreation of the gritty vocals and energetic stage persona of Rod Stewart.
After spending thousands of hours studying and practising Rod’s voice and style, Dave now perfectly duplicates all the music and moves. In his spectacular show, he effortlessly glides through all of Rod’s big hits, from Hot Legs and Do Ya’ Think I’m Sexy, to romantic ballads such as The First Cut is the Deepest, and trademarks such as Sailing and Maggie May.
Dave is regarded as one of the best impersonators in the world. He spent many years living in Las Vegas, performing as Rod Stewart and sharing the stage with Elvis, Cher, Tom Jones and Neil Diamond impersonators.
A major highlight of his career was performing for troops in Afghanistan and Bosnia.
“I was invited by the Canadian Military to join a Variety Show to entertain troops serving overseas,” Dave said.
“It was a full production show and we went on to do seven tours. Performing these concerts for the troops was an enriching experience,” he added.
The Canadian-born singer says he is overwhelmed by his immense popularity in Australia.
“Last time I was in Australia, I played in Sydney and had sell-out crowds. In America, opportunities to see Rod Stewart live come around more often than they do for Australian fans. People tell me that I have given them something that is just as satisfying and just as close as they are likely to get to the real thing,” said Dave.
Dave explained that Rod Stewart has a deceptively high range and unique style which makes it difficult to imitate his voice.
“I count myself amongst the few vocalists in the world that can truly emulate Rod’s voice,” he said.
“I chose his music though, because it is so lyrical and his songs are as popular today as they were when they were released.
“They also appeal to people of all ages and walks of life. I see teenagers, mums and dads, and grandparents at my shows, all having a great time, singing along and enjoying themselves. It’s the same all around the world,” said Dave.
Dave met Rod Stewart’s band when they were visiting Toronto for a concert at the Skydome. They were so amazed by his likeness to Rod, they invited him backstage. Dave had the chance to meet the superstar, who said he was “flattered” that Dave had chosen to create a tribute show based around him and his music.
Dave’s special guest at his Twin Towns’ show is young powerhouse performer, Ashleigh Toole.
Ashleigh began performing her tribute to Cher last year, but already the Australian Idol top 12 finalist is taking the music industry by storm. Marcia Hines said, “You’ve got one of the finest, strongest voices I have heard.”.
Ashleigh says a highlight of the show for her is singing with ‘Rod Stewart’.
