About 7am on Sunday July 16, 2011 a beige Nissan Pulsar hatch was being driven by an 18-year-old ‘P’ plate driver in an easterly direction along the Waterfall Way, Wollomombi.
At a point approximately 2km east of Four Mile Creek, the Nissan has crossed to the wrong side of the road directly into the path of a silver Volkswagon beetle being driven by a 54-year-old male in a westerly direction along the Waterfall Way. The front of the Volkswagon has collided with the front nearside door of the Nissan and, upon impact, has caused the Nissan to be split into two, the front end coming to rest on the northern side of Waterfall Way and the rear end to rest on the southern side of the road. The male driver of the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle and suffered suspected spinal injuries. There were a further two 17-year-old female passengers in the Nissan that suffered injuries and were conveyed to hospital for treatment of suspected chest and head injuries and bruising. All parties were from the Tamworth area.
The male driver and front female passenger, both 54 years old, in the silver Volkswagon, managed to free themselves from the vehicle shortly after the accident. Both received treatment for shock, bruising, cuts and the female received a broken arm. The 82-year-old female rear passenger was deceased shortly after the accident. All parties were from the Coffs Harbour area.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are continuing.
