Julia Rose, Wildlife Carers, thank you for your very informative letter to this paper on October 17.
On the strength of what you have had to say, I have removed my bird-feeding tray. I, like many others, put mixed seed out on some days, whereby I could admire the many parrots and other bird varieties that visited my garden.
I was shocked to read of the many deaths of parrots, especially of the glorious King parrot, one of which I had visit here last week.
I have noticed that there are many honeyeaters and other small birds finding delight in some grevilleas I have growing and, while the flowers are much smaller than on grevilleas that I grew in Sydney, they seem to attract the birds nonetheless, even though I cannot see apparent nectar as I could on the Sydney grevilleas.
I hope other bird lovers heed your warning.
