The Guyra Golf Course now boasts two well designed environmentally friendly composting toilets strategically placed to meet the needs of players.
The elegant tower-like galvanised iron structures were designed by green keeper Len Archer and Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club (GBRC) Vice President Cameron Peardon.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, who officially opened the facilities recently, said the project was a tribute to the vision and dedication of Club members and the community.
They successfully applied for $6000 from the State Community Building Partnerships Program, matched that through local fundraising and completed most of the construction work themselves.
“The GBRC is a great success story,” he told the players who gathered on the course for the opening.
“Seven years ago the Bowling Club and the Golf Club amalgamated and have gone from strength to strength since then, with 800 members now registered and first rate facilities.
“A can-do attitude and strong community support has delivered great results for Guyra in many ventures and this is one of them.”
Veterans Club President David Bearup and Secretary Betty Bourke applied for the funding for the new toilets, with the support of members including GBRC President David Wilcox.
At the opening, Mr Bearup told guests the golf course had been officially opened in 1925 by the Governor General Lord Stonehaven.
At that time, the 50-acre course also doubled as the town common, where the community grazed cattle and horses and also as the local racing track.
