Plant a tree for Mum

A recent planting day along Dumaresq Creek.

IN MAY this year UNE Landcare and the Armidale Urban Rivercare Group (AURG) have teamed with the Trees for Mum movement, another Landcare partner group, to host the annual Plant a Tree for Mum this Mother’s Day in Armidale.
Celebrate your mum and nurture the environment.  Plant a native tree in honour of your mum this Mother’s Day, Sunday 12 May.
“Trees for Mum’s theme this year is to honour, remember and celebrate,” said Spokesperson for UNE Landcare, Ellen Nyberg.
“What a great affiliation for our Mother’s Day working bee.
“Trees for Mum was created to give motherless children of all ages the opportunity to remember their mum while planting a tree – a beautiful symbol of new life.”
The stories of how Laura Adlam and Deena Raphael founded the group are worth reading on the Trees for Mum website. Their idea to honour, remember and celebrate their mums by planting native trees and plants struck a chord with many others.  Since 2002 more than 20,000 people have participated in the Trees for Mum Mother’s Day program at over 100 planting sites across Australia. UNE Landcare and the Armidale Urban Rivercare Group are proud to be affiliated with Trees for Mum and welcome Armidale residents to come and celebrate their own mum’s memory.
Plant a tree for Mum on Mother’s Day Sunday 12 May will be working on the northern bank of Dumaresq Creek opposite Sports UNE. Park at SportUNE and walk across the playing fields to the working bee. Morning tea and lunch will be provided by Armidale Dumaresq Lions Club for a gold coin donation. Please wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirt, a hat and gloves.  Sunscreen is available at the site
Come along and plant a tree at UNE to honour, celebrate and remember your mum on Mother’s Day.
