A NEW leadership centre opened in Armidale on Thursday 23 May with the potential to have profound benefits for students in local public schools.
The New England Leadership Centre was officially opened by the New England Regional Director, Jim White.
Mr White is confident that it will have an impact for students in the classrooms of public schools in the region and further afield to schools well beyond the New England-North West area.
“Leadership is the essence of any student’s successful education,” Mr White said.
“Effective education responds positively to leadership at many levels – from those who lead, the principals in schools, to those principals’ leadership of their staff and to the leadership teachers show to their students.
“We have opened the New England Leadership Centre because we believe better leadership will make even better schools, and that will benefit every student in every local school.”
Mr White said the public schools in the New England region had a strong tradition of fostering leadership development.
The New England Leadership Centre has been established as a resource for the provision of leadership professional learning opportunities to build upon the leadership capacity and performance of our great leaders.
School and non-school based educational leaders, teachers and support staff have access to professional learning through a suite of targeted leadership learning programs made available in face to face workshops and conferences in addition to online programs.
These programs will be led by the Department of Education and Communities leadership and professional learning specialists, aspiring public school leaders and recognised leaders from the wider community, Australia and overseas.
The centre has state of the art facilities to enhance learning and connect staff in collaborative networks through connected technology for schools in isolated areas.
