TOP international films will be showcased at the 10th Armidale International Film Festival held at the Belgrave Twin Cinema from 2-4 August. Festival Pass tickets go on sale on Monday 1 July at 8am for this special weekend to be held on 2-4 August.
Audiences will be captivated by highly acclaimed films from Western and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. All films will be subtitled. Over one weekend, 13 films will be screened. What a window on the world!
Tickets for films on Saturday and Sunday have numbered seating so you need to go into the cinema to choose your seat from Monday 1 July. Opening Night and tickets for individual films will go on sale on 22 July or earlier, if festival passes sell out.
“Comedies, thrillers, dramas, to documentaries, this year’s films have it all,” committee member Caroline Downer said.
“It’s our tenth year and we are celebrating with some wonderful films in the new upgraded and spectacular 2K digital format.”
From the Roumanian film BEYOND THE HILLS (Dupa dealuri), a powerful and sombre meditation on faith and friendship to the breathtaking cinematography of SISTER (L’enfant d’en haut) a family drama set in a Swiss ski resort, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes.
And what would the festival be without a Mads Mikkelsen film? THE HUNT (Jagten) is set in a small, tight-knit community in rural Denmark, where a man must defend himself against the innocent lies told by a child.
Highlights this year are the 2013 Oscar shortlisted films for Best Foreign Language Films – War Witch (Rebelle), a confronting drama depicting the plight of a 12-year-old girl soldier.
Another is No, the political thriller about an advertising executive’s campaign to defeat Pinochet in Chile’s 1988 referendum and In Darkness (W ciemności), the inspiring story of the rescue of a dozen Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland, the winner of this year’s Oscar Best Foreign Language Film; and the winner of the Palme D’OR – In Cannes in 2012, is Love (Amour), a highly-acclaimed masterpiece from director Michael Haneke, who has created a stunningly moving experience you will never forget.
The Armidale International Film Festival acknowledges the support of ABC New England North West, the School of Arts at the University of New England, Services UNE and the Belgrave Twin Cinema.
