ARMIDALE is a diverse community that has people from many parts of the world.
According to the last census, almost 20 per cent of our community were born overseas – speaking and read many languages. Armidale Library holds and has access to books, magazines and DVDs that residents can borrow in a variety of languages.
The Library has a special collection of books in both German and French. Many of the French books have been donated by the local Alliance Francaise group.
It also have a variety of films from around the world, including the films from major European, Middle Eastern and Indian film makers, available for loan.
Also, for a small charge, staff are able to supply a box of books and talking books in a range of languages supplied by the State Library of New South Wales. These languages include: Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Vietnamese and many more.
Members can request a box of 10 or 20, adult fiction and non-fiction, material for children and young adults, and talking books, or a combination of these. Library staff can request specific titles for a further charge.
Just ask at the library about the multicultural language collection next time you visit.
