State championships at Blacktown

New England Bowls With Richie Clutterbuck

THE zone 3 teams struck very strong opposition in the State Championships at Blacktown over the weekend and failed to win any matches. In the first round they lost 64 to 90 to zone 6 and the only rink winners were the team of Graham Spence, Rob Hook, Brody Dexter and Tim Anderson who won 21-12.
The second round result was no better as they lost on all rinks against zone 16 (55-99). Their final match was against zone 12 and despite winning on one rink and drawing on another they still lost 66-90.
Late withdrawals did not help their chances and against strong opposition on their home greens it is very hard to compete. Next year the event will be held at Dubbo with matches to start on a Saturday.

Champion of champion singles
THE zone has released the draw for the champion of champion singles at Wee Waa on 21-22 September and Todd Fuller will play the winner of the match between Scott Hamilton (Inverell) and Alan Webb (Barwon).
This is to be played on Saturday afternoon. In the other semifinal G. Spence (Narrabri) will play L Russell (North Tamworth). We wish Todd all the best.

Big year for city club in 2014
IT WILL be a big year for the City club in 2014 with the main club celebrating 100 years and the ladies’ club will be 60 years old. Phil Wheaton is currently organising the year and has asked me to mention that he is very interested in having access to any old photos of the club or of its early personnel. These photos will be returned to the owners as soon as copies have been made so if you have any or know of anyone who may be able to help then please contact Phil at the club.

Annual triples at Servies
THE Ex-Services club will host their annual triples at the end of the month and with only 14 teams being accepted then I suggest you contact Paul Bullen ASAP. The Uralla club will host their President’s Day on 21 September.
