ARMIDALE’S roller derby side got off to a flyer in its debut bout on Saturday, hammering the Outcast Derby Demons in Bateau Bay.
The New England Derby NED Kennedy’s, made up of Armidale, Tamworth and regional skaters, smashed the Demons 192-101 in what was their first bout as a team.
Most valuable players for New England were jammer Jessica Stocker and blocker Rachel Devenish-Meares.
It was the perfect build-up for the NED Kennedy’s next bout, a co-ed competition called “Festivus for the Restivus”, which will be held at SportUNE on 14 December.
More Armidale skaters will get their chance to shine on home turf.
In Bateau Bay, the team comprised six Armidale skaters, four Tamworth skaters and four skaters from other nearby regional areas.
Armidale also provided two bench coaches, three referees and two non-skating officials.
It had been a long time in the making with the Armidale Roller Derby league training for the past year to bring skaters up to bouting level.
