Hall facelift’s cooking with gas

MEMBERS of the Guyra Showground Trust will begin the upgrade of their community hall kitchen after receiving $49,000 from the State Government and Guyra Shire Council on Friday.
Deputy Premier Andrew Stonder and Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall visited the showground during their visit to Guyra to announce a $30,000 grant for the kitchen refurbishment.
They met with Guyra Shire Council representatives to discuss the project.
Mr Marshall said the funding was part of a number of grants allocated to the Northern Tablelands under the Government’s Public Reserve Management Fund.
“The money will be used to undertake important infrastructure upgrades and in the case of Guyra Showgrounds, they have wanted to upgrade their kitchen facilities for a while now so the funding is very welcome,” Mr Marshall said.
“Guyra is a very active community and there are a lot groups that use the community hall and the refurbishment of the kitchen will certainly be enjoyed by many residents and visitors.
“I’m delighted to see significant funding being channelled into our local reserves to improve them for the benefit of the whole community.”
Guyra Showground Trust chairman Chris Sole said the community appreciated the assistance it had received from Mr Marshall to access the funding.
“This has been on our wish list for a long time so it’s very good news,” Mr Sole said.
“The upgrade will mean the hall can be used a lot more often. We will begin renovations as soon as we can, it’s long overdue,” he said.
Guyra Shire Mayor Hans Hietbrink said the council would be contributing another $19,000 to the upgrade and was delighted to see such a valuable community asset receiving funding from the Government.
“It’s very welcome news and very much appreciated,” Cr Hietbrink said.
