Young musos forge links

STUDENTS from three Armidale schools made the trip to Narrabri last week to take part in a three-day Bandlink program.
The 13 students from Duval High, Armidale High and Ben Venue Primary joined 140 peers to form a big band and performed a concert.
Their conductor was Ian Cook from the University of Newcastle. A team of 20 brass, woodwind, and percussion instrumental specialists from the university were also on hand to provide expert professional tuition.
They were also able to share their advice with students about how to pursue a professional career as a musician.
Duval High School music teacher Bruce Myers said students had a wonderful time making music all day for three days.
He said the students enjoyed getting to know other musicians from the region and being inspired to play more often. They also had great fun swimming in the pool during the hot evenings, he said.
