AFTER dedicating her adult life to helping others, the favour will be returned for Victoria Brown on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Armidale woman will be the special guest at a fund-raiser at the Armidale Greyhound Racing Club.
Victoria was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and the community is rallying to help cover some of the costs borne by her family as they travelled to Sydney to be by her side.
Troy Johnson, a colleague of Victoria’s at New England Mutual and organiser of Saturday’s fund-raiser, said it was the least he could do.
“Victoria has been a real community champion and she’s raised money for the Cancer Council before through Tour De Rocks and other events,” he said.
“It was only right to help her and her family out when she needed it.”
Victoria’s parents Marlene and Ken Brown said they were humbled by the support of the community.
“It makes it so much easier knowing you have all these people willing to help out,” Marlene said.
“I think Victoria is very humbled and maybe even a bit embarrassed by all the fuss.”
Ken said his daughter had returned to work and was likely to make a full recovery.
“At this stage the results are all-clear,” he said.
The Armidale Greyhound Racing Club has attracted 10 sponsors to its race day on Saturday, with proceeds going to Victoria and her family.
Club president Gary Carson said he hoped the community would flock to the track to support a great cause.
