AFTER years of waiting, Armidale’s new entrance signs have finally been installed to welcome travellers.
The signs state Armidale – Highest City in Australia and Experience the Highs.
Armidale Dumaresq councillor Jim Maher, who was the mayor and chair of the economic development and tourism committee when the decision was made to erect the signs, said he believed the right decision was made to erect them.
“This issue has been discussed on and off since I joined council in 2004, but it’s great to see the signs finally being installed,” he said.
The signs were constructed by Inverell company Danthonia Signs.
“For too long, Armidale was the only community on the Northern Tablelands without entrance signs. This has now been addressed,” Cr Maher said.
“I hope the people of Armidale appreciate the signs, which will draw people to our beautiful city to appreciate all that we have to offer in terms of heritage, education, sport, services, culture and commerce.”
