Sharing in service

PLC ARMIDALE students marked the end of the school year with a comprehensive community and social service program with various organisations throughout the region.
Students from Year 6 to Year 11 participated in life-saving activities each morning at the town pool learning vital skills, followed by involvement in a service project of their choice every afternoon.
Some helped the Salvation Army sort and display second-hand clothes, some chatted and made craft items with elderly people at BUPA, Autumn Lodge and Ken Thompson Lodge, while others assisted the local Landcare organisation plant and tend trees.
The girls were also involved in various activities on campus at PLC, from arranging items in the school’s archives, to sewing much-needed items for the Allowah Children’s Hospital in Western Sydney.
Established eight years ago by college chaplain Jen Leahy, the program enables students and staff to serve the community as well as fostering a lifelong love of volunteering.
“It is a PLC tradition that is enjoyed so much by the girls and staff,” Ms Leahy said.
“They love the fact that they are using their end-of-year time in a purposeful and meaningful way, in helping others.”
