OPERA New England is bringing La Bohème to Armidale next month.
There will be four performances at The Armidale School’s Hoskins Theatre in January.
La Bohème was one of Puccini’s most loved and frequently performed operas.
Set in 1900 Paris, it’s based around a poet, painter, musician, and philosopher who plan a night on the town.
The production features conservatorium-trained young singers, some still undergoing their training.
Goknur Shanal has returned to the opera scene following Dame Joan Sutherland’s passing in 2010, having previously had master classes with the Dame.
Shanal shares the role of Mimi with Sarah Toth, who is completing her Master of Music in Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium.
La Bohème director George Torbay has brought the performers together for an intensive rehearsal week and he said he was excited about their voices.
“I am just so thrilled to present these amazing singers to the people of Armidale and New England in this wonderfully passionate opera,” he said.
La Bohème, sung in English, is being performed from 23-26 January.
