Jumping for joy

PONY club riders from all over the region gathered at the Armidale Showgrounds over the weekend for the zone jamboree.
It was the first time that Armidale had hosted the event since 2004, with clubs sharing the responsibility on an annual basis.
Armidale Pony Club president Robert Finlayson, who is also head of the zone, said he was impressed with the turnout.
“We had 199 kids compete and they came from everywhere,” he said.
Riders from the Guyra, Inverell, Glen Innes, Uralla, Bundarra, Tenterfield, Emmaville, Kingstown, Walcha and New England Girls School clubs joined with Armidale at the jamboree.
“Glen Innes won from Walcha, while Armidale finished third,” Mr Finlayson said.
“It was a good event and we had some great feedback.”
Mr Finlayson thanked the small army of volunteers who helped stage the three-day event, which started on Friday.
“We also want to thank the Barbarians Rugby Club for letting us use the side of their oval for the show jumping,” he said.
