New England Bowls By RICHIE CLUTTERBUCK
THE third annual Top of The Range Fours played at Guyra over the weekend drew teams from areas all over northern New South Wales, however only one team managed to go through the five games undefeated.
Congratulations to the Guyra Country Fresh Hot Bread Shop sponsored composite four of Mike Pennell (Ex-Services) Lindsay McIntyre (City) Paul Bullen (Ex-Services) and local Guyra champion, Col Stanley. These four players have been most consistent for some time in our area and their win was well deserved. The conditions were extremely hot and it’s a credit to the players for the way they handled the heat over both days.
With the winners being the only team to win all matches second place went to another composite team with 4.5; wins and the players were Peter Taylor and Barry Smith from Kempsey, Bryon Cullen from Kootingal and Dale Scriviner from Scott Head. A count-back was requires to separate third and fourth places as both finished with four wins plus 45. Phil Kliendienst and his team of Peter Brodbeck, John Hamel and Andrew Sparke from the host club won the count-back from another Guyra four of Dan Kennedy, Barry Campbell, Dave Wilcox and John Jackson. Quirindi representatives Jason Heaver, Scott Ryman, Broderick Longfield and Neville Ryman finished fifth with four plus 38. Well done to the Guyra club on another successful carnival.
Great day out
DISTRICT match committee chairman Don Faulkner has the draw for the district fours to be played at Guyra on 1-2 February and all clubs will receive a copy this week. Entries for all other district events closed at the weekend and draws will be available once the match committee meets.
Gary White celebrated his President’s day on Sunday and this was again another great day on the banks of the Macdonald River. Most clubs will be holding social bowls on Australia Day so please contact your club for playing details.
